This home suffered a frozen pipe which led to a burst pipe which led to a basement flood.

A delicious dinner in Lynn, MA was left unattended and resulted in a cooking fire.  While the fire damage itself wasn't too bad it did spread soot and grease throughout the home.

Prevention Tips for Frozen Pipe

Open cabinet doors under sinks and in storage areas to allow heat from the room to circulate around uninsulated pipes. Allow a trickle of hot and cold water to drip overnight; however, be careful not to run the water into a drain line that is exposed to the extreme cold because that line might freeze.

• Open
• Insulate all pipes in unheated areas or against uninsulated outside walls, in garages or in crawl spaces. Apply heat tape or thermostat-controlled heat cables around pipes that are exposed and prone to freezing.
• Make sure the heat is turned on in the building and is set no lower than 55 degrees Fahrenheit

During the filming of the movie "Patriot Day" the set design warehouse had a small electrical fire. SERVPRO of Salem, Peabody, Marblehead was called in to make sure the show would go on. Air Scrubbers were immediately set up to remove the odors and the water from the fire department was extracted. The facility was back up to normal in no time and filming was able to continue.

You can easily spot the most visible type of mold, called mildew, which begins as tiny, usually black spots but often grows into larger colonies. It's the black stuff you see in the grout lines in your shower, on damp walls, and outdoors on the surfaces of deck boards and painted siding, especially in damp and shady areas. A mildewed surface is often difficult to distinguish from a dirty one. To test for mildew, simply dab a few drops of household bleach on the blackened area. If it lightens after one to two minutes, you have mildew. If the area remains dark, you probably have dirt.

You’ll see gutters torn and damaged, shingles that are broken and falling off, and even paint that’s peeling. What you may not see is the underlying damage to the deck and in the attic including wet insulation, which can become moldy, damaged sheet-rock in the walls, and major wood and plaster rotting issues. As you can guess, preventing ice dams in the first place, or removing them as quickly as possible is essential for the well being of your property.

A major snowstorm hit Boston, and much of the Northeast. Many homeowners know that unsightly ice dams are what often follows a major snowstorm and onset of low temperatures. Nashua, NH — Nashua firefighters extinguished a giant fire at a Bay Ridge apartment complex Sunday in extreme conditions as the heat index soared close to 100.

Two firefighters were hospitalized with heat exhaustion. They were expected to recover.
